Is Heman still alive?

Just wanted to make sure the rest of the Heman community is doing well these days. The blog has been looking fairly lopsided. I get worried about the rest of you.

Is MF Doom using lip-syncing imposters?

You know, if this had been anyone else I would be pissed, but from Doom I'm not all that shocked

Has masked hip-hop renegade MF Doom been dispatching lip-syncing look-alikes to cover his shows? The controversy came to light after a disastrous August 15th performance at San Francisco's live music venue the Independent that featured a noticeably skinnier and particularly furtive Doom rapping for twenty minutes – into a dead mic. According to opening act DJ Enki, Doom’s abrupt departure provoked an already frustrated audience: fans booed, threw bottles, called for a refund (no such luck), and left convinced that Doom, or whoever performed, never rapped a word.

“The only thing that was live about the show was the hype man’s mic,” DJ Enki says

And check out the video that Wired got from Rock The Bells (pay close attention to when the timer gets to around 1:20

zZz is Playing: Grip

This was shot in a single take. Single. Fucking. Take.

Not only is it a really cool song, a pretty cool idea for a video, and it was filmed live in front of an audience and was immediately added to the Stedelijk museum to their video exhibition they were including.

This is what Heman Woman Haters is all about.

Y.A.C.H.T. Cool Hunting Video

(sorry the embedded video player isn't working)

Episode 86 of Cool Hunting video podcast focuses around Y.A.C.H.T. and is pretty fucking cool. The music was already pretty cool for those who enjoy laptop rock, but those shows look like pure Heman-ery. Also, he makes the argument for how gangster it is to have a cat as your best friend, which is the opposite of Heman-ery. But the album title "I Believe In You, Your Magic Is Real" makes up for it.

Unnessesary video

RZA as Bobby Digital - Domestic Violence

I think Cocaine Blunts and Hip-Hop Tapes put it best:
How does a video for this song even exist? While they’re at it someone should adapt “Wildflower” into a major motion picture.

Skunk Fu

Check out this opening sequence from the new show Skunk Fu - scored by Ghostface. The theme is pretty good, but what a great idea to get Ghostface to pen the opening to a show called "Skunk Fu." Beyond that though, the whole thing just makes me really want to be a 6-year-old so I can get excited about watching this on Saturday Mornings

Simply Media Changed My Life (updated)

I was on vacation all last week and didn't get a chance to respond to HMZ's post about Simply Media. You need to get on it right now. Seriously, right now. It's great. Add me: I'm "gregrutter"

I just wanted to add some more details to Dan's post. Here's what Boing Boing wrote about it which sums it up to anyone who is curious.

Simplify Media is free software that lets you access your music and your friends' music over the internet using iTunes. There are a number of existing solutions that offer music streaming, but Simplify Media has some unique differences:

1) Within iTunes: Instead of using a limited, browser-based player, you can sort, search and play remote libraries right inside the standard iTunes user interface. This is very similar to iTunes network sharing but the computers can be anywhere instead of only on the same subnet.

2) Easy setup: No need to upload files to a website. No port-forwarding or firewall configuration. You can have access to a multi-thousand song library in minutes.

3) Cross platform/format: Supports mp3, aac, and wma files across both Macs and PCs (Windows XP or Mac OS 10.4x). For your own account you can even access your iTunes-purchased songs.

4) Private groups: Computer-to-computer streams are encrypted, and there are limits on the number of friends you can connect to. However, despite the security, adding a user is as simple as adding a buddy in IM.

The Chemical Brothers - The Salmon Dance (video)

How come no one ever told me that Fatlip is back on drugs? He's making a fucking song about salmon now. (nod to Ethan for the heads up on this track a while back).

Simplify Media Changed My Life

Hello everyone. On yet another wonderful suggestion by our favorite e-man, I give you Simplify Media. This program allows you to share your iTunes library remotely (streaming only) with anyone on your contact list so long as your iTunes and Simplify are up on the remote computer.

Thus, I leave my computer at home running, and just like heavenly magic, I have access to my entire library while slaving away in my corporate den. My username is DANNYSUX. Feel free to comment to this post with your new Simplify username so that we can all be good little (legal) pirates together.

Oh how I wish this was tongue-in-cheek. Just a little bit? Really?
