Whatevs' Best Of 2009

Here are all my (Whatevs) favorite songs from the final year of the aughts. At first I didn't think this was a particularly watershed year for music but after trolling through my iTunes I've settled on 39 songs that really stood out to me, and I think I've changed my initial assessment.

The order is a little crazy but I chose it to specifically call attention to each track, so there's a pretty big tonality disparity between each track. It's not a mixtape. It's a bunch of songs that are pretty different from one another. There's some rock, some R&B, some rock, some hip-hop, some rock, some alt-country, and ten other kinds of rock.

Nicholas Chatfield-Taylor--friend of the people, dear compatriot of the Hemen--teamed up with Ninjasonik to produce this video for the group's remix of Matt & Kim's Daylight. Very cute (in a str8  hipster/gangsta way).

London DJ Hanna Hanra runs this quality music zine, P.i.X. with another DJ, Princess Julia (who was in the Visage "Fade to Grey" video for chrissakes). The zine's hot to death. While you may only enjoy the "free" part of their "It's Free and It's a Poster" slogan online, you won't be sorry.

Hype Machine's 2008 Zeitgeist

If you've ever wondered how to get your digital hands on some free MP3s then you're probably not reading this blog right now.
