Radiohead announced that they're coming out with the new album called "In Rainbows". That'll be exciting right?
Want to hear something else that's exciting? Well they're letting you choose your own price for the album. That's right.
So it sounds like eventually they'll sell it in stores, but for now you can pre-order it for whatever price you want. Sweet! It's a $0.45 charge for credit card processing, but beyond that it's up to you. I paid 10.45 euros (god damned Europeans) and it's the first time I've bought an album in 2 and a half years (since M.O.P. came out with "Mash Out Posse").
Album is out October 10th

Why would you preorder an album? Especially one that will be available for download. I mean, it's not like they're going to run out of mp3s.
Because it allows you to set your own price rather than being told how much it will be available for.
On a subpoint: Apparently €10.45 exchanges to $21.33. Who knew? I guess I've learned my lesson for actually wanting to buy an album.
Andrew -
your cynical little comment here ignores the entire concept of fandom. I can imagine that Mr. Whatevs preordered this album a) because he likes this band a great amount and wants to support them, b) because this gets him excited about the release, and c) because he thought he was getting a good deal. Though his assumption that the US dollar is going toe-to-toe with ANY currency was at best uninformed, the sentiment remains that the preorder is a exciting, fun phenomenon, albeit sightly anachronistic in the age of downloads. By preordering, he raises a banner of support, sending a very different message than a (paid) download would in the future. My question really is, why would anyone pay for music, but I choose to support other folks' excitement and integrity. But yes, you are correct that they are not going to run out of mp3s, smartass.
Also, there was a hinting going around that it might not be a formal release, and therefore would not be available in any other way beyond this "pre-order". Of course that doesn't limit the ability to obtain the album in any other, less encouraged ways, but you get the point.
