I love this track, though indeed I think this is a pretty safe form of a "mash-up." Take a pleasant, somewhat deep song that is not especially downbeat driven and place downbeat heavy (and dope) lyrics over the top. It is almost a sure fire winner (think Eminem and Dido for a poppy, old example). However, to revisit an old he-question which wasn't really fleshed out appropriately, I don't think that this song would appropriately be called a mash-up. It is certainly a remix of the Mobb song, but does the fact that the underlying "beat" is made by another group of musicians and indeed can be heard on its own make it a mash-up? I think not, and I take this stance because I think that what has been created here is a hip hop song, and Sigur Ros' part in that project is basically that of any other sampled artist whose work is integrated via sampling.
one of the songs i'm contributing to volume IV of the podcast will add a relevant data point and i think it will help you make the distinction. don't ask me what song, it's a surprise.
1) He Man Woman Haters is a lifelong friendship society dedicated to the advancement of He Men and He Manery around the globe. 2) Each He Man must contribute to the He Man community, or his name shall be stricken from the He-record. 3) Women are the bunk.
